Petrified wood was used during the Great World Wars when turquoise was scarce due to heavy mining for copper in support of the war effort. Petrified wood which occurs in New Mexico was and is a beautiful alternative to turquoise. This dramatic and beautiful ring by Navajo artist Nathan Lefthand. Signed by the artist and marked sterling.
